  1. Webcast Finished

the meeting of the charity for the Poor of Old Romney.
This meeting will be webcast live to the internet.
For those of you who do not wish to be recorded or filmed,
you will have to leave.
And everything else applies with mobile phones
and being respectful, et cetera.
So welcome to the first meeting, my guessing,
some time of the charity for the Poor of Old Romney.
So if we could start with apologies for absence.
We've not received any apologies this evening.
Thank you very much.
And declarations of interest.
Are there any declarations of interest?
No, I don't see any.

1. Apologies for absence

3. Charity for the Poor of Old Romney - update

So we'll move on to item three,
which is the report that is in your pack
and will be led through by our Chief Executive.
Thank you and evening trustees. Thank you for joining us for this meeting of the charity, the Port of Olromny.
Item 3 in your pack, report number PRR 2501 outlines the details of the charity as we have them.
And you'll note from the pack that they're quite scant in terms of detail held by the council about this charity.
There are recommendations before you on page 3, which is obviously to receive the note
report but to approve a request to be made to the Charities Commission for the closure
of the charity, known as a charity for the poor of Old Romley, and to delegate to the
Director of Finance in consultation with the portfolio holder for finance and relevant
ward councillors to agree the distribution of those funds currently held on behalf of
the charity.
So the report over the page outlines information as best we have it, which was that the charity
was formed on the 15th of June in 1779 for the purpose of supporting the poor within
the ward of Old Romney.
The details of the scheme are included as appendix 1, but as you'll see, they are almost
ineligible.
And of course, we haven't got a hard copy of that.
we have only electronic copies.
A number of years ago, I'm assuming that there was
a transition to electronic filing,
and this is the best quality before you that we can find.
We have looked at detail at the accounts,
and there's a balance in the Charities accounts
as of the end of March 2025 of 306 pounds.
And there's no supporting documentation
that demonstrates there's been a distribution
of any of the funds that we can bring and advise you about.
So section two of the report outlines the next steps
in terms of the process that needs to be followed
and set out by the Charities Commission.
So we're asking you to agree and record resolution
on your intended action, which you'll see is for us
to distribute the funds and close the charity.
And section three of the report gives the associated legal
and financial advice as per normal.
So trustees, that's about as good as I can find
in terms of trying to close up this piece
of unfinished business for you.
So I'm very happy to try and address any questions
you may have, but hopefully the suggested way
forward is clear in the item for you.
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
I doubt if we'll have a more straightforward decision
to make ever than this one, trustees.
Would someone like to kick us off with any comments or questions or issues?
Councillor McConville.
I'm happy to propose the recommendations.
I mean, I tried to make out some of what was in the text.
I got bits and pieces.
Yeah, it would just be interesting to know when was the last time, I guess, any sort
of funds were sort of metered out and to who and how and in what capacity.
But maybe we'll never know.
But it's obviously clearly right that it's obviously not functioning.
So happy to agree and also agree with Alan's comments in the report
that I think the Romley Marsh Community Hub is the best place for the funds,
even though it's not explicit in the recommendations.
Thank you very much.
I'm very happy to second that and I also agree that the Romley Marsh Community Hub
is the most likely recipient of the funds.
So if there are no further questions or contributions,
we have a proposer in Trustee McConville.
I have seconded.
So all those in favour, please indicate.
Thank you very much.
That is done.
And this could be the last ever meeting
of the charity to support the poor of Old Romney.
So we have made history.
Certainly.
Thank you very much for your participation.
